Ben, don't you know that cleaning your bike is pretentious? :-)
Firstly, use low pressure and a rag when washing your bike, rather than high pressure, which will force water past bearing seals and reduce the life of bottom brackets, hubs etc even though it makes the job easier. Then dry off the chain and all exposed moving joints, such as derailleurs and brakes, with paper towels, and lube them. In theory you should remove and clean the chain properly after every wet ride, but in winter that'd drive you nuts.
I also find that the cable guide under the bottom bracket gets seriously gunked up in the wet, and needs to be cleaned with an old toothbrush and lubed at least weekly.

Hey Fish,
Just grab a $50 MTB from cashies and stick a motor on it. Those things are rad.

small tip. Once your bike is super clean, give it a coat of Mr Sheen. This will mean the first few wet rides afterwards will mean the dirt washes off easy. But only a few rides. You need to keep that chain clean all the time, and the rear cluster. Get a sram link or a Wippermann chain so you can get it off your frame, in some solvent, and then polish that chain and cluster before putting the chain back on, and then lubing...
work hard on cleaning the bike and you will get longer life on your groupset.

The chain etc gets cleaned with kero every 100 kays, 2 rides max.
Yeh Mr Sheen is good for the brake surfaces also, well on Ksyrium's anyway.
I do not often remove chain to clean, even though I have SRAM link, it only goes on one way.
Too much hassle when you get it wrong.
Do not lose SRAM link also, it has to have the same wear as the chain.

Rains usually not the problem I discovered - keeping the bike out of the Siantar sewers is absolutely essential, very toxic down there I discovered edited by Robert Rau on 23/07/2009

Hey Matt, I've never tried the floor polish... Surely Woolies or Coles has the funrniture polish on it's shelves??? You might have to ask the spotty kid with the voice that has just broken that hangs out in aisle 10.
