Hi,
Due to bad behaviour of some motorists I keep a few spare bikes. the current list is a Giant TCR (which I use for group rides in the hills) as it is nice and light and accelerates well. I have 2 Vitus 992, one has Dura Ace 9 speed groupset (very nice aluminium bike which I last rode in the Amy Ride) and the other is the complete original Mavic SSC (this one is by far my favorite bike and ride this one to work everyday). I have another Diamond back Podium 3 in a box somewhere which is the spare I rode in the 2008 C2C after the original Vitus got flattened by a car. My wife thinks I have three bikes and has a good point in saying that I only have one bottom, but she doesnt know about the fourth bike. Wouldnt mind getting a cheap single speed bike which I could ride to the gym (as they no longer allow locking bikes in the foyer). Just dont know how to tell my wife

Surely one above average bike is enough, depending on the number of k's you are clocking. you need to be optimising what you get out of your machine and chopping and changing machines to me makes no sense, and the aim is be working with something that is comfortable and feels like an extension of yourself. Roger federer walks on court with a bag of racquets but i bet you he pulls out the same one for every tournament ...

I got three bikes which I ride plus another spare in a box somewhere. I know other people who own more than a dozen. My wife believes I should only have one bike for one butt. I have a nice Giant TCR for those pack rides when you dont want to be left at the back or dropped at the traffic lights when everyone else accelerates away. I have a Vitus 992 with Mavic grouppo which is typically french and ride it everyday and everywhere I can even though it weighs over 9 kg but its a twenty year old bike. Lastly I have another Vitus 992 with 9 speed Dura Ace and weights about 8.5 kg and is perfect for rides on the flat over 45km/hr (makes a good time trial bike if I was into that sort of thing - mostlyI admire its anodised purple main tubes and chrome forks and rear stays. The one in the box is a diamond back carbon/ aluminium bike which I keep as a spare because there are alot of motorists out there ready to run me over....Not sure what I want to ride in the Aldgate 100 yet....

2 road bikes, both steel and lugged, 4 fixed gear steel bikes, 2 bmx, 1 track bike, 9 single speed mountain bikes. That's 18. I ride 4 of them.

18 is impressive. I'm only at 5. 2 road bikes, one for commuting, one for playing in the weekends (sports car), 1 mountain bike for trail riding, 1 mountain bike with kids seat (family wagon) and an old steel hacky for the occasional commute or leaving locked at the train station. All but the steel one get a fair rotation.
The garage has been re christened the bike shed by the minister of finance. Not sure how to broach the subject of wanting a track bike next...
Next question is who's given their bikes names?

Only one of my bikes has a name now, the first fixie, which I named Black Betty, but the best name was given to a nice shiney red Cannondale mountain bike by my wife. She dubbed 'her' Camilla. Then she was traded in after a year for a younger model. The bike that is, not the wife.

18! I thought I was bad at 6-ish... 4 MTBS (two dual suspension XC rigs, one rigid mtb and a dirt jumper), a steel road bike and a full carbon roadie.

Deciding on whether next bike is cyclocross, a 29-er, or a danish balloon tyred city commuter.

Actually anyone want to buy a Cannondale Scalpel (2006 X-9/X-0 with Lefty DLR2) or Chase 3?
