Hi all. A few mates and I are planning a holiday around the Grampians with families later this year. Can anyone give me some guidance/ideas on the rides (road cycling) and climbs we shouldn't miss out on while we're there.

I beleive most of the roads are still closed. Was there a few weeks ago, the main south road out of Halls Gap is closed just out of town so you can't get to Mt. William, I jumped the gate there but soon found the bridge was washed out. Roads into the hills are also closed, I jumped the fence at one of the closures but soon came across still uncleared landslides and had to turn back. So check with the roads aurthority before getting too excited. If they do open back up the rides are great!

Hope it is all fixed up for the Great Grampians Classic (8 October), the best way of spending a day on the bike imaginable......if you like a climb or two!!!

It's an Audax ride. Last year it was held in early October. Starts at the Halls Gap oval, heads up to Mt William carpark, back into town, then up to Boroka lookout, down to Zumsteins and then back into town. About 100km with 2000m of climbing. It seems to be pencilled in for October 8 this year on the Audax calendar but many of the roads are still closed. I suppose "watch this space".
The road beyond the boomgate at Mt William carpark is something else - crazy steep. edited by David DiGiantomasso on 24/06/2011
