Hi Brett,
Saw the new Dura Ace 7900 offered on ebay a few weeks ago. Would have been a bargain if the Aussie dollar didnt take a nose dive. Bought a retro Mavic SSC groupset instead (what else would you put on a Vitus 992?). Saw the same retro Mavic SSC grouppo go for $1400 USD two weeks ago as a buy it now price - good to see a few die-hard retro freaks are still out there! Hopefully the second hand price of the Shimano Dura Ace 7800 series will drop as people try to off load old technology for the latest. Has anyone seen or own the new electronic Dura Ace 7900 series (hope its more water proof than the flightdeck!). Mavic introduced an electronic grouppo (now a collectors item) back in 1994, but it was prone to failure in wet weather.

Haven't seen any bikes up here with Dura Ace 7900 yet...

But Robert, I do have an old Dura Ace front derailleur from around 1992 that was in brand new condition the last I looked at it...

Went out on a Bike SA, Night Expresso Ride last night. One rider showed up with the new Shimano 7900 grouppo on his bike. Looks beautiful on a black carbon frame but not so sure if it would suit a silver/ titanium frame. One drawback which Shimano hadnt really addressed was the scuffing of the crank arms which is very unfortunate for a $3000+ groupset. Very nice and stylish, and I like the concealed cables. I hope that Shimano doesnt lean towards incorporating too much carbon into their components in the future just to save a few grams. Afterall why sacrifice strength and reliability as it is no good to have a light groupset if it breaks at an important moment. Oh the hollow pin chain must be installed in the right direction - hope it is stronger than the nine speed 7701 chain (broke two of these and even had trouble with frozen sliding plates, however have also broken a Sram chain as well). Pity the cost of the groupset is beyond the budget of Mr Average cyclist, but a second hand ten speed groupset would be nice as well

Yes, but it's my rich mate, not me, unfortunately (the same guy Robert's referring to). But at least he sold me his old Dura-Ace
cheap (although I can't use the band-mount front der - see Marketplace) :-)

Looks nice, and is 120g lighter, but I'd expect shifting to be a little stiffer due to sharp bend in concealed gear cable.
